2020-21 School Year Opening Message

A Message from our Principal

Tuesday, August 11, 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians:

The 2020-21 school year is quickly approaching.   We will begin the school year remotely which means all students will use a device, as well as hard copy resources, to promote their learning at the onset of the school year.

Parents, you play an extremely important role in your child’s education during remote learning.  It is imperative that you ensure your child is attending all of their remote classes through Google Meets, and attendance will be taken at each Google Meet. Your child will also be receiving grades for the assigned work and the assignments must be completed and turned in.  It is also important that your child reads and practices math at least 30 minutes each day in addition to their Google Meets and classwork.  We will be using some exciting online platforms this year.  Programs to support literacy such as Lexia, Achieve 3000, Smarty Antz, Razz Kidz, Saddlier, and Common Lit. and for Math:  Dreambox.

On Thursday, August 13, 2020 from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm grades K-1 will have their “Virtual Meet and Greet” while grades 2-5 will have theirs from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm. with their teacher via Google Hangout. To participate in the Hangout, please use the code sent to you by your child’s teacher.
The purpose of the “Virtual Meet and Greet” is to familiarize you and your child with their teacher, distance learning expectations, and how remote learning will work.  Please plan on attending this meeting for the entire time.

A message from our Principal and Assistant Principal

Dear Washington Elementary School Families,

Mr. Decker and I just wanted to reach out and let you know that though we are not in school with your children; our thoughts are with you during this very difficult time. We also wanted to thank all the families that came to pick up packets and electronic devices. We are continuing to receive information on a daily and weekly basis from District 60 and will do our best to keep you updated. In addition, we are finding out more information about device(s) dissemination in order to get all of our students’ devices for this distance learning. We will provide you with more information about this and a schedule for distance learning over the next couple of days.
