Waukegan Public Schools is once again joining the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) in the 2019-2020 statewide 5Essentials survey of school climate and learning conditions. This survey provides parents a unique opportunity to voice their opinions and ideas on improving their schools. You can take the survey here: https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/
From now through February 14,
2020, parents are encouraged to complete the 20-minute research-based
survey in order to help identify the specific strengths and weaknesses
of their school’s learning environment. This survey serves as a valuable
opportunity for schools to reflect on progress since the last statewide
implementation, and make better-informed adjustments moving forward.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey provides a comprehensive picture of a school’s organizational culture in an individualized report measuring five “essentials” critical for school success:
- Effective Leaders
- Collaborative Teachers
- Involved Families
- Supportive Environment
- Ambitious Instruction
Twenty
years of research at the University of Chicago in more than 400
buildings has shown that schools strong in at least three of the
5Essentials were 10 times more likely to make substantial gains in
improving student reading and math than schools that were weak on three
or more of the Essentials.
